Wikipedia Bots and Gene information

Project description: This project is a data mining project that involves working with Wikipedia (the public domain encyclopedia: http://www.wikipedia.org/) using “bots”. Wiki Bots (Robots) are automated processes that interact with Wikipedia. This project involves the creation of bots that can automatically create the Wiki pages for about 10,000 known and well-characterized genes. It involves the research, development, and implementation of the bots, as well as the research and the creation of the gene pages. This project also involves the creation of a quality control mechanism for the bots and their interaction with GNF’s Gene Atlas database.

Required qualification: We are seeking a graduate student who has a formal training in Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, or Biology. The successful candidate is expected to have good programming skills, be intimately familiar with web programming, especially PHP, JAVA, and/or Python. Data mining and knowledge of the biological domain are pluses, but not necessary.
