Bioinformatics Faculty Position Open

The Department of Computer Science at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Bioinformatics beginning August 2007. Salary is negotiable. Applicants should have an earned doctorate in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field and commitment to teaching Computer Science at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to have a demonstrated ability in innovative research. Demonstrated ability in securing external funding is a plus. The San Diego region has a large industry in biotechnology and high-tech. Biotech companies located in San Diego area including Biogen IDEC, Nanogen, Gen-Probe, Invitrogen, Isis, Amylin and Diversa. In addition numerous world-class research organizations and companies in biotechnology are located in the San Diego area, such as The Salk Institute, The Scripps Research Institute, The Burnham Institute, The Neurosciences Institute, UCSD, San Diego Supercomputer Center and La Jolla Institute for Molecular Medicine. The College of Sciences, which includes Computer Science, has active research groups in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Computational Science with have substantial outside funding. College level research centers include the recently opened 33,000 square-foot BioScience Center, the Molecular Biology Institute, the Immersive Visualization Center and the Bioinformatics Laboratory. A number of computer science faculty are part of the College’s Computational Science Research Center, which has a Ph.D. program. A number of faculty in the College of Science, including several in Computer Science, are active in bioinformatics.
