Abstract:
An intranet belongs to an organization, and is designed to be accessible only by the organization's members, employees, or others with authorization. An intranet's Web site looks and act just like other Web sites, but has a firewall surrounding it to fend off unauthorized users. Intranets are used to share information.

An Intranet can be used for just about anything that you could and would put on-line in your organization to share information and collaborate across boundaries. That is a blessing and curse. Some organizations have internal networks that carry the information they need. They do not need an Intranet. Some organizations have many Intranets set up by units collaborating across the unit but not across the organization. Their Intranets do not have standards. The kind of information presented, and the way it is presented, is disorganized. Some organizations have joined units into a coordinated Intranet that allows easy access to information outside of unit boundaries. The best practice is to divide the whole intranet into small components. Build the Components separately and then merge them once they are generated. Determine your employees needs and wants. Assign an administrator to manage the internal site. In our case there will be several actors like Administrator (one who manages the intranet and have all the privileges). Publisher who can publish articles, documents, company news, sales figures, etc. Users who can only view the documents, articles, news, etc and he/she is the one who have only read privileges on the intranet.
