Abstract:
The Digital Media Archive project is one of the many initiatives by the Language Acquisition Resource Center at San Diego State University to improve the teaching and learning of foreign and second languages in the United States. The goal of DMA project is to provide easy access to shared language resources for foreign language research, teaching and learning via the internet.

The current version of DMA user interface, however, is only English language based. This limits the sites capacity to effectively and efficiently reach a wider user community of different cultural and linguistic background.

This project examines and retrofits existing DMA implementation to provide a globalization framework that can easily be adapted to support additional languages. The project emphasizes the development of a framework that is extensible, easy to maintain and allows seamless language negotiation. The project also provides a step-by-step localization process and workflow based on this framework. This work combines various globalization methods and approaches to meet DMA’s architectural and technological peculiarities. It is expected that this project will aid as a guideline to globalize other sites of LARC which share similar design
