What is GIScience

GIScience is an emerging specialization that combines various aspects of computer science with geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, cartographic visualization, spatial statistics, and global positioning systems (GPS) in studying and solving geographical problems. This Certificate in GISciences is made possible through the joint efforts of the Department's of Geography and Computer Science who have combined forces to offer one of the premier programs of its type in the United States.

The purpose of the program is to prepare students to capture, manage, analyze, and visualize geospatial data in public and private organizations.
